I could stretch across my 66 jazz a little better down near the nut, it was an A neck, 1 and 1/2" across at the nut. That I think is the only thing I liked better about Fenders, the old A necks were nice as I have small hands. And actually I'm more of a roots type sort of player anyway I just wanted to see if I could figure out the Jaco tune (I could but I couldn't play it, haha!).
To me the overall effect of moving the neck pickup was to give the basses a little more mid-presence as opposed to more bottom. Thanks for the details John.

My '75 has a 1 7/16" nut width, so it is narrower than most stock Jazz necks.

What would be the measurements for other's mid 70's Ricks, anyone?
