Thinner 4004 saddles
On my 4004 my E string saddle has hit bottom. All other strings are good and the neck as almost dead straight. Just a bit lower on the E string and it would be perfect. Any idea on a replacement saddle that has a thinner profile?
Re: Thinner 4004 saddles
Do you have the current Schaller or the older ABM bridge? If the ABM, the Hipshot Style A will do the job as that is what I had to use to get the action down where I wanted it on my old '04 Cii. The Schaller (on the later 4004s) seems to go plenty low as I still have quite a bit of room to lower the saddles on it if I want.
Re: Thinner 4004 saddles
Wow i have tons or room to adjust either way. what is the tension like on the neck it's self ?
Re: Thinner 4004 saddles
This shouldn't happen with a bass as expensive as a Rick with expensive hardware. While he can crutch the problem with the bridge, the real culprit is probably a negative neck angle caused by the pickup route right up against the neck. Just because the neck is flat doesn't mean the fret board is parallel to the top of the body, and I'll bet it isn't.
Re: Thinner 4004 saddles
It might not be, but other than the E it's killer. And it's not of by much either. Still playable but if like it lower.

George,
Not sure what you mean by the tension on the neck. It's almost dead straight.

Be aware that on SOME of the 4004 with the ABM bridge, there is a matching plate underneath the bridge. I don't think this was on every one. If you have it, you can remove it, making the bridge sit lower in the shallow cavity on the body. You'll probably have to raise the saddles a bit to compensate. Check your bass.

If it has the ABM, the Hipshot Style "A" is your answer.

Not sure what an ABM bridge is. Here is what mine looks like. Is the Hipshot a direct replacement with no extra holes to be drilled?
Re: Thinner 4004 saddles
So will any Hipshot style A bridge just fit right in or am I looking for some thing specific?
Re: Thinner 4004 saddles
This is the one you want.

.750 string spacing,,,,It comes in your choice of brass or aluminum, brass is a little more expensive. A far superior bridge over the ABM. (Sorry RIC ).

Thanks. I'm going to give it a try.
Re: Thinner 4004 saddles
Yes, the Style A bridge will drop right in, at least it did on my old Cii.rikk wrote:Is the Hipshot a direct replacement with no extra holes to be drilled?
