Do you insure your instruments?

Post by bassman4001 »

I'm considering getting an Anderson's policy. I know that if something happens in my home, my homeowners will cover it. But, what if you have your Rick out and it's stolen, or some jagoff knocks it off you stand and the neck breaks or something. Who do you use and should I check there?

I'm a renter, and renter's insurance policies have coverage limits that will no way pay for a loss of my guitars and basses. So, I pay extra for separate endorsements for each of my instruments. This additional coverage is relatively inexpensive and mine covers loss and damage both in and outside the home. I use USAA.

I have a rider on my homeowner's insurance which covers guitars/amps for theft or damage outside of my home. At the time I did it, I think the amount would have covered any 2-3 guitars I owned (and an amp). The thought now occurs to me that I should probably contact my agent and kick that up a little. I have some nicer stuff these days.

(Its just tacked-on to my Allstate policy.)

I always recommend Heritage and discourage any kind of homeowners' riders, etc. Only heard bad things about them, and only good things about Heritage. Thankfully I've never had to file a claim but I'll still say all my dealings with Heritage have been great.

I also use Heritage.
Relatively inexpensive for the total coverage.

I do, and checked out Heritage, seemed good and a lot of people here recommended them But, they would not insure my instruments outside the USA. Anderson's said, "No problem with being outside the US." Seemed comparable to Heritage so I went with them. Good thing too since I'm no longer living in the USA...

I have a rider to my homeowner's policy for replacement value. The policy specifics that it is for the "non-professional musician." It does cover use outside the home such as a jam, open mic, RRF Confluence, etc. However, rider would become invalid if I started accepting a paying gig. That said, with my skills, I do not worry about the policy being invalidated.

I don't, and I should, given that I own a 4002, a 4003s/8 and three other Ricks. I've been reliant upon the household insurance but I'm not sure that would cover me for those sort of values.

Can anyone in the UK recommend a good insurance company for this sort of stuff?

Check out Anderson, they insure me in NZ so I'd bet they would cover the UK too...
