It finally happened! I was offered a 4002 and I just finished paying for it. It should be here in Toronto mid next week. Before you ask, I checked out the story, addresses, history etc. before I paid so that I was certain it was a legit offer.
I am soooo pumped!!! It's a 1978 MG.
All I can suggest for anyone else is keep posting WTB: Rickenbacker 4002 everywhere that you can find because sometimes it actually pays off!
It came out of a small town in Texas. The owner got it as a Christmas present from his folks when he was getting into music in the late '80s. He's building a drag racing car (he owns a hi-performace garage) and was looking for ways to pay for some related equipment. I guess he's turning an old hobby in towards his new one.
The only production Rick basses I have seen those Schallers on are the 4002, 4008, 4003S/8, and the various 4004 models. They may have been a custom option back when such things were possible.
Very nice David. I placed a few WTB ads last year for one, and didn,t get any replies. They are great basses. I wish RIC would go back to an ebony board and 21 frets for a fretted and fretless bass. 24 of course would be even better...
