E-bay Craziness

$850 for pair of disembodied body wings? Do you suppose this is parts from a knockoff, or maybe somebody had a set from the factory? Is this guy dreaming or has the market for Ric parts gone this purely crazy?

Ah, but the trick is that they are (or appear to be, at least) unused body wings for a 4002! Complete with dinged black-edged checker binding. So they're special. Dunno about that special, but . . . .

Nice!! These are 4002 body wings! Too bad he doesn't have a 4002 neck for sale!! These were posted a few months back a quickly removed from ebay. I imagine these will be removed soon too.

Nice try, though.

I just feel sorry for that poor, wingless 4002 that is out there.... somewhere...

I think his price is ridiculous, but if they ARE original parts, why would they be taken down off E-Bay? Does parting out a Ric violate copyright? If so, why do the occasional damaged "husks" come up for sale?

Edit:
Already gone off e-bay, either sold or taken down.

These 4002 parts came up before on Ebay and were removed by RIC.

It is company policy that these unfinished parts should never leave the factory - so one should assume that they are stolen property - that they left the factory without the consent of the management. Incomplete parts, necks, bodies are all destroyed from what I have heard.

I don't think these body wings were ever attached to a neck.

if they are real that is. And they are in violation of RIC's trademarks in either case - even if they are not original.

These wings never were on a bass and they most likely "walked out of the factory". John Hall still lurks here, although he does not post. RIC defends it property fiercely. I bet Gibson and fender wished they had done likewise. Anyone interested in them will need to buy it now quickly before the sale is ended by ebay. They will appear again. I just wish there was a 4002 neck for sale with them. I need one of those. Hint hint!! :D

I asked about this over at the RIC factory forum when these wings showed up a few months back, and got ZERO responses. Plenty of people saw the post, but not one person had anything to say about it. Talk about the cold shoulder. You'd think I was asking questions about Area 51 or the Mafiosa or something. Forgetaboutit....

HA, area 51!! I imagine items that walked out of the shop and then pop up on eBay are a very sore subject indeed. I have no use for a pair of 4002 body wings, cool as they may be. Now a 4002 neck, I'm all ears!!

You're probably luck they did did not put you on moderated status over on the RIC forum for asking about them. You know If I were there, I'd have replied! :D
