Limited Edition Query
I just got a CS4001 (yes, I know it's a bass) which I love. I've been seeing what's out there and what the prices are, and I can't help but notice the Susannah Hoffs guitars seem to go for LOT of $. Any insight into this? I mean, is there a lot of people looking for that killer tone from "Walk like an Egyptian", or is it simply a fantastic guitar? Conversely, and forgive me if I'm insulting your collection, but the Glen Frey edition looks, er, um, ugly. Anyone agree?
I was a huge Bangles fan when their album "All Over the Plance" came out. The album is all classic Rickenbacker and Susannah shows masterful Rick work, imo. I am not fond of any work the Bangles did after that (can you say "sell out"?). I remember seeing her special edition guitar when it came out at a pretty famous guitar store in Manhattan -- they had a couple I think -- and it went for around $1500. I choke at the prices I see for them today, because I don't think they're worth more than that now. Just that Limited Edition - can't get no more - pricing I guess.
The Hoffs' Edition is a unique one in several respects. It is a striking example of the classic 350 shape in Jetglo, the style and colour imprinted on the occipital lobes of many a Beatle enthusiast. It was produced in a "limited" number of 250. The sound is hotter than other 350's due to the humbucking pickup. Lastly, there is the "famous" aspect of this instrument given the Hoff's name. The checked binding and triangle inalys really set this instrument off. In summary, it is a most playable guitar with a great look and I am not surprised that its unique features have commanded a high price.

Lefty: You can find a link to Susanna and what looks to be a performance by the Bangles on the Rickenbacker Registration Page.
