Removing Neck Twist in 1981 Rick 330
Looking down the neck towards the headstock the neck twists lower on the right side (clockwise) by about 0.10 inch or less. Is this from the higher tension strings accumulated warp over 20 years? Can the older truss rod system rectify this through adjustment? How shall I proceed to straighten it out?
What is the right side ?
If you mean the bass side of the neck ,checking a neck the way you are doing it is not very reliable .
When you see a tech holding the headstock and sighting down the neck ...they are getting a generalization of whether the guitar has a proper neck set.And if ,again in general terms ,is the fretboard straight .
I have posted repeatedly how to check the straightness of the neck .

I was referring to the treble side. Looking down the neck from the bridge towards the headstock the neck is twisted clockwise slightly at the nut. The relief on the treble side is just about right, the relief on the bass side almost zero. I have read that on the old truss rods you need to loosen them both, then move the neck manually to the desired position and then tighten the truss rods to hold that position. Do I need a clamping device to hold it while I tighten them? Will it move right back to where it was? Please elaborate on the process. I know it's nothing like my newer truss rods on my Taylor and Stratocaster. I have searched on your previous posts and read them and I'm still a little unclear about the old truss rods. Thanks!
