Their version of 'Jackie Wilson Said' is outstanding. When the bass comes in with that GBG CBG.. GG F# G G# A riff, it rockets that song forward.

My '78 WHT 4001 was originally owned by Giorgio Kilkenny. He could have recorded Come On Eileen with it,but other stories say the studio just used a P.

If you could only find Rinus Gerritsen's 4001 that he used in this clip!Chris P wrote:My '78 WHT 4001 was originally owned by Giorgio Kilkenny. He could have recorded Come On Eileen with it,but other stories say the studio just used a P.

Re: Dexy's Midnight Runners
Here's a take on the ska version of Come on Eileen by Save Ferris with the vocals and bass taken out and replaced by ME on my 2024 4003S Fire-glo Rickenbacker with a pick and Rotosound Swing Bass stainless steel roundwound strings standard-gauge RS66LD set 45-65-80-105, "bright, hard-hitting tone"

Come on Eileen vocals/Save Ferris bass & vocals by Cara
(original vocals and bass removed and replaced by Cara)

This is the Ska version, with brass instead of fiddles and traditional celtic instruments like accordion from the original Dexy's Midnight Runners version. It's a lot more aggressive, fast and heavy and especially it features Monique Powell, who is the only original member remaining in the current lineup.
Monique Powell – original vocals
Brian Mashburn – guitar, vocals, piano, organ
Bill Uechi – bass
Marc Harismendy – drums
Eric Zamora – alto saxophone
José Castellaños – trumpet

Re: Dexy's Midnight Runners
Cara, thanks for taking the time to send this along. Nice work. It is a lot harder to play bass and sing at the same time than one would think. You did it well though. There is certainly a lot to think about in Come On Eileen. I love this Fireglo bass and the string set you have on it during this recording. Thanks for the details.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
