Need advice for localized ding in my finish
Bumped the headstock of my Midnight Blue 4003 and put a small chip in it. It's circular, about 1/8" diameter, and all the way through the finish, exposing the wood beneath. Any advice on how to repair would be very welcome. Thank you.

Depending on where it is and how picky you are... leave it for mojo... try to match with finger nail polish ... take it to a luthier. I've had good luck with Fingernail polish for small not super visible places in the past.

I wouldn't sweat it. Just pick up some nail polish at the drug store. You should be able to handle this yourself. I did the same thing on a MID 250 once.

Thanks, gents. Can you recommend a brand or generic type of polish? Did you do any post application finishing, such as sanding and buffing, or was a careful application of the polish all you did?

Ask the clerk in the cosmetics department at Walgreen, they can help.LanceManyon wrote:Thanks, gents. Can you recommend a brand or generic type of polish? Did you do any post application finishing, such as sanding and buffing, or was a careful application of the polish all you did?
Or, Diane Vasco.

I used my daughter's eyes to match the color in the past... this is a touch up not a refin. I have just manually applied to the guitar. build up over time.

I just made my best guess at the drug store. The shade I chose turned out a tad more green than expected, so aim for more blue-er, if that helps.
Re: Need advice for localized ding in my finish
seriously I had my daughter match the color. Women's eyes seem to do the distinction of shades far better than most men. also remember that the store lights might not give you the best condition to compare. try out a little before you apply it to the bass on a piece of wood or cardboard. let it dry fully. It is far easier to add than subtract. So if you can position the bass with the ding being as flat (parallel to the floor) as possible and just add a little to start, it can be built on. Also most fingernail polish has a self leveling property.

I'll bring my wife and two daughters, then. With six female eyes it's got to be a sure thing! Seriously, though, this is all great advice. I'm feeling confident.
