Looking for a good place to get a bass Refinished..
Anyone suggest a good Luthier that refinishes Rickenbacker basses and maybe an estimate of how much it might cost $$ ??

Check Larry Davis:

He did two of mine and I'm quite pleased.

Larry has my 4003S right now for a customization and refinish. His work on this board won me over, and as a bonus he's a great guy to deal with.

Just got back from the BARC get-together,where i saw about a dozen or so examples of Paul W's exquisite refinishes. I can't imagine you could do any better than to have him do your refinish, whether you want something traditional,or something more unique. If you get a chance take a look at the pictures just posted over on the BARC 2015 thread....or go to Paul's column on this forum.

I second that. Paul's the man. He built my RIC acoustic bass.woodyng wrote:Just got back from the BARC get-together,where i saw about a dozen or so examples of Paul W's exquisite refinishes. Larry Davis, 100%. He's done a few things for me and I plan to have him do more!

Ok all, thanks for the info, hope to do a refinish sometime soon..

Another vote for Larry, 100%.
He's the one I'd trust with my Ricks.

I'd say it depends on what you want to pay...
If you don't need 100% Ric accuracy (finish composition, fretwork or restoration), Pat Wilkins or Marty Bell do superb work for half the price of the others mentioned.
I've been doing my own finishes for a while now, but have used both in the past and been very pleased.

Hmm, I have to agree with Sean on this one. What type of finish? Solid or a burst? How are the bones?? If you need repair work done then I'd tend to go with someone who was Rickenbacker savvy, but even I've veered off that path recently. There are a ton of great re finishers that do awesome work. if that's all you need and you aren't interested in sticking to a text book RIC burst, then think outside of the box and explore your local options. You really may be surprised about what you can get without spending a ton of cash and shipping your instrument across the country.
Think of it this way, if you had a 10 year old vehicle, would you bring it back to the dealership to have it painted or would you check a few body shops out? It's the same thing really.

+1 in regards to Pat Wilkins.xsubs wrote:I'd say it depends on what you want to pay...

Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

I've used Pat many times myself. He did my cream 8 string and my pearl white double neck.

I've the same Anvil / Calzone road case for my Ric's when they travel, awesome case and protection.
