Though I can't say with any certainty I would guess those lead parts were done with the Les Paul. Btw, that's one of my favorite Beatles songs.

Recorded on an 8-track as well I believe.

The song was done, or set, in drop D tuning. George played, from what I've read, his Gibson SG, maybe the Fender.

I'm not sure if it was the LP or not. Rob Taylor has a set of instructional videos/DVD's and he absolutely nails the tone on this one with a Casino.

For anyone interested:

I don't think it's really going to make a difference. It was a very midrangey crunchy distorted sound (and VERY cool). You'd probably get that with humbuckers more than single coils. It would certainly help.

But if you're picking guitars, I'd say the SG because the bridge pickup is hotter and would get you there easier. But I'm just guessing. You certainly could achive that same sound one way or another with the Casino through the amp settings, EQ etc.. I'm sure EQ etc.. played a part no matter what guitar was involved.

Certainley the acoustic in the song is the martin, this only seems logical because it was one of the songs he wrote in india and this was the guitar he brought along to write songs with in india!

I always liked the bass in this song also.

I always thought the lead guitar was mostly Paul on his Casino. Doesn't quite sound like George's style, to me.

Also, while I do hear an acoustic in there, I think the main guitar part (John's) is mostly electric. Sounds like at least two tracks of a Strat, one played on the lower strings, the other on the higher strings. In the bridge, the two parts actually separate in the stereo mix.

It sounds to me like the LP, but it also sounds as if he may have used one of the fuzz pedals that may have been lying around....

Don't know if it's your site or not, Alex. The info was sent to me. And it has some flaws in it, like where it states George using a Telecaster on DP, but George didn't get his Tele until '69. May be he used the Strat but George was playing the Les Paul at the time according to Beatles Gear. But more likely the chances are no one will ever know for sure.
