Also, I think he'd have to be a little more sure of financial success. At that price I'm skeptical it can be made profitable for parts, given how likely it is half trashed....hope I'm wrong for sake of the winning bidder.
He does use different accounts to purchase instruments - so who knows. We will see in the next week or so.

But doing a quick breakdown of it- based upon his current listings and the prices for each we get -

TRC = $190 (maybe a bit less due to damage)
Neck Pickup = $99.99
Bridge Pick up = $119.99 (he got that for a 4001 Pick up from 1976 last month)
Bridge pick up surround = $39.99 (he got that for a 4001 Pick up surround from 1976 last month)
Tail Piece = $99.99
Wiring Harness = $89.99
Knobs $24.99
Grover Tuners = $119.99
Strap bolts $19.99
Pick guard $29.99 (he got that for a 4001 Guard from 1976 last month)
Jackplate $99.99 (he got that for a Jackplate from 1976 last month)

Body = what ever he gets - likely starting cheap - at this point it doesn't matter what he gets for it. Even if it goes for $50 it is still all profit.

I hate this math by the way. :(

If the harness in this bass has been in water with the rest of it, it's useless.

Except for the caps, right?? They should be OK, no??

If the tuner pop up on eBay, I'd take all 4 for that price!! I'd pull them all apart and bomb proof them. yes, I need 4 Wavy Grovers for an early 73 I'm negotiating the details on. The current owner put some huge *** tuner on her. She'll need to have the post hole diameters reduced/sleeved. I just love me them Wavy Grovers!! :D

Any sightings yet of the hulk? I doubt the butcher got it, kind of risky as to the real condition of the bits.

I've been looking but alas, no set of rusty wavey Grovers!! There is a 1973 4001 harness on "da bay" right now.

He's doing quite well for himself... already in profit zone, assuming pickups and harness work correctly and don't come back to him as returns. He'll make hundreds off the whole thing eventually, if the completed (sold) eBay auctions of his are all from the same guitar. If he sells that hulk of the body for the price he'll about double his investment or better. And I thought it went for too much (figured electronics were screwed and I couldn't imagine the prices for the rest).

A shame about the bass in the first place but I don't begrudge the parting out of something in that bad a shape. He says he was told the bass was waterlogged from a fire, left in the case and not opened until the damage was done. Too bad, because prompt action could have saved it more or less intact. I suppose the owners had other things in mind at the time, such as the rest of their house being through a fire (and insurance might have covered the bass without them even looking at it).

Well not the NJ Butcher but rather one from Pennsylvania. So updating my breakdown we get -

This eBay seller lists the 4001 as one color walnut

Neck Pickup = $119.99 SOLD
Bridge Pick up AND pick up surround = $379.99 SOLD
Wiring Harness = $129.99 SOLD
Grover Tuners = $279.99 SOLD
Strap bolts $26.99 SOLD

Tail Piece = $199.99 LISTED
Pick guard $99.99 LISTED
Body AND Jackplate $399.99 LISTED

No sign of these bits so far. Perhaps he needed them for another project.
Knobs $24.99
TRC = $190 (maybe a bit less due to damage)

So looks like buying the whole thing at $566.30 was a good deal after all.
