Vintage Rick-O-Sound?

Post by berklee6 »

I recently bought this well-used Rick-O-Sound splitter online from a music shop. Upon delivery I noticed that it seems like an older unit. The silver cable has the writing "COLUMBIA FLEXLINE 1323" printed every 12 inches or so and enters the pop-riveted unit via a black strain relief "donut". From these details is it possible to determine an approximate era (1980s, 1970s, etc.) of the unit?

I owned a '91 unit with black cable, so it may not be much help, but it's at least older than that.

The shiny grey Columbia marked cable range disappeared from catalogues in the very early 80's. Production of the cable may have stopped earlier (late 70's?). Rickenbackers used Columbia hook-up cable with white Teflon inner insulation for pickups from at least 1963 through to the late 70's. The grey hook-up cable on instruments since, and currently used looks like the Columbia Flex but is a different product. So, most likely its a 60's or 70's unit you have. Cool!
