Man, like the bass, like the room, like the song. Oh, and the player.

Reminds me a bit of Geddy, very aggressive finger style with a lot of fret buzz and clank, but it works!

Excellent! 8)

I think the maple fingerboard is a big contributor to the tone.

Sweet as! I've gotta say, I like my 4003W a lot... Now, if only I could play that well...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

What Steve is doing is not really difficult, overall. Just take it in small, baby steps and work on the various individual sections, and before you know it, you'll be playing just like little ol' Stevie, too..............................

For some reason I thought that he was using one of the Darkglass boxes to help get that killer tone. But I can't find the reference now...

Anyway...great playing and tone.

Don't know if these gives you info about the studio sound, but here is a review of gear on the road, with Ric content.
Skip over the guitar fluff up front, and Steve is on at about 24 mins.

I find the sound very thin, all clank and no body.
