What a dilemma!!

Post by theonemanband »

Hi,

I have always been a 12 string man and am lucky enough to have three excellent instruments; an Avalon (hand made in Ireland) acoustic, for pure acoustic gigs, a Rick. 620-12/FG and a recently added Taylor T5s-12.

The Ricky 620/12 is by far and away my favourite, but the fact is, the Taylor knocks it out of the ball park with its wide variety of tones (I do a wide genre of songs on live gigs).

I have bought a small muti fx pedal (Zoom MS-100BT) to try and get more from the Ric. I am slowly getting there and hope to promote it back to my main instrument anytime soon but I just thought, how lucky & fortunate I have been to have the choice of such great guitars..........what a dilemma!!
:D
only my opinion of course!

Very nice set of 12s you got, all are great in their own way. 8)

I am stuck with just my Yamamoto MS-12.

This one is similar to mine, it having been built a few instruments before mine, the of one I know to exist.

Here is one photo of mine:

Hi,

I don't know much about Yamamoto instruments, but that looks really excellent and from the thumbnails and specifications on your link, the beautiful woods and craftsmanship appear to be in perfect harmony, creating a very special guitar!!
I'm not sure about the fanned frets though; I've heard mixed opinions and have never had the opportunity to try a guitar with them.

Since the OP, I have been working on tone shaping my Ric620/12 and I'm happy to say it is now back as my No.1 "weapon of choice"................trouble is, I now feel I'm being "unfaithful" to my Taylor!!
only my opinion of course!

Don't form an opinion based on what you read, wait until you have a chance to actually try one. The guitar feels quite natural to me, there was no adjustment period required to play it. :D

I agree with regard to the fanned frets, I've tried a few Dingwall 4 and 5 string basses and playing them was very easy and comfortable. Closest I've ben tempted to buy and play a non-Ric bass was the Dingwall, sadly they don't do Fireglo.
