OK, I spend too much time surfing guitar shop sites. But check this out:

They have some commercials that you can watch, which are all quite funny, but the last (4th) one features a nice 60's 360/12 and someone who makes it sound pretty damned good!!

Nice store too. I stop by whenever I'm in Chicago. They had two GORGEOUS F models there last time (a 360F and 370F as I recall).

They also sell a lot of guitars on Ebay. I picked up a 360 V 64 from them. Great guitar, nary a blemish on it and it was setup well.

I bought a '64 615 from them a few months ago via eBay. The guitar cost me a pretty penny, but had some serious problems that they did not disclose in the auction. They also sidestepped making good on the problems, and even avoided my phone calls until I gave up and spent more $$ getting the guitar repaired. (And this is from a store that prides itself on its customer's satisfaction.) I find their ethics to be suspect, and will never buy from them again.

(On a positive note, now that I got the guitar fixed, it's my main player.)

That's hilarious. The guy playing the Rick is Phil, from whom I just bought a new Fireglo 370/12. Now if Rickenbacker would just build the damn thing already...

The thing is.....they had two 4005's listed on their website a few months ago, back when I was looking for my first one. The first was a '67 4005/WB mapleglo , the second was a '67 4005/6 ....I called one day and talked to a "somewhat knowledgeble" fellow who gave me a price on both, but he was sort of short with me and I kind of got the feeling that I wasn't serious and that I couldn't afford it, so THAT kinda turned me off. So I let it go for a few days and it kept eating at me .....I NEEDED a 4005!!

I called back on a Saturday and got this other guy who put me on hold for almost 10 minutes, came back and told me in a very convincing tone that Ric didn't make a 6 string version of the 4005.....I really didn't feel like arguing at that point and brushed it off ...I didn't really want to give 6000.00 for something that "doesn't exist"......

They probably still have both of them somewhere in the back and none of the employees know they're back there.....

Hmmm.....

Fender garden mulch......... could be a whole new market for them! Bag 'em and call it 'Chip-o-caster' or 'Strat-o-dust'!

The poor guy's gotta start somewhere!! Didn't we all?. Perhaps if he didn't sing the guys might have been a bit more sympatheic.

Hey, I said that Fenders were "kit guitars" but building one out of sawdust is a bit much.

Is the glue included?

They build furniture out of compressed sawdust, iron on a bit of walnut or maple veneer and put it on the showroom floor as 'reproduction'. I hate to think what some people may have done or will do in regard to guitars.

Sure, you can buy a tin trumpet or a chipboard piano but the truth (and quality) will always come out in time.

BTW, I'm thinking about building an early 80s reproduction Samick. What glue would you recommend (apart from nose glue)?

I can't imagine that particle-board or MDF would have good sonic qualities for an instrument, but they do make a lot of speaker cabinets out of MDF. Where's Phil?

Correct John, but you could build one for looks, not tonal quality or playability. Where's Ed Roman?
