Looks GREAT Bill, congrats!! :)

Nice to see these continuing to ripple out... hopefully one will drift out to sea off of Cape Cod sooner than later.

Tick tock tick tock. :P

Have you plugged it in yet? How does it sound??
Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

Mine arrived last Saturday. Chris at PotR text me to say they were expected in on Tuesday. I called him on Wednesday and he opened the first Walnut S bass he had received as I was on the line with him. He asked me what sort of grain was I looking for, wild or mild. To me, it didn't really matter. When he opened the case he said 'Wow! That's gorgeous!!" He described the grain pattern as being pretty dramatic, as all the W instruments that I've seen fotos of. He said the maple neck section above the bridge had a circular branch mark in the grain. When I asked him how the action was and he replied very good, I said, 'I'll take it!". I did not want him to have to open each box, even though he would have if I had requested it. He said it felt very light and then took it to the scale and told me it was nearly a pound lighter than standard 4003's.

He shipped it on Friday and I got it on Saturday. I've been tooling around with it for nearly a week and I'm really digging it!! It is very light and she's gorgeous!! I took her to rehearsal last night and while the band is use to me unvealing new instruments, they were blown away by this one. Her tone, is fierce!! I had Dane build me a 60's spec harness with a black 60's cut pickguard and purchased 60's spec pups from Classic Amplification to turn her into a 60's killing machine but I'm really having too much fun playing her as she is. Her tone is very meaty and bright. The hi-gain pups are very powerful and sound great!! I know I'll lose that power with the new pups. I will convert her, but not right now.

The neck is incredible!! The matte satin finish makes for an exceptionally smooth fast neck!! I wish all my basses felt this good!! I do love the newish profile that the bass shares with my 2011 Jetglo 4003. I don't need my wrist sweat band because of her smooth lines, but I need it to stop from sweating on her!!

OK, now for the fotos. Enjoy!!

Fantastic!
How does the tone compare to the regular 4003S?

Verry interesting,Sepp!
How would you say the profile compares to your 4002 and '60's 4001 basses'?
Is it more like your Spector bass'?

I do love the feel of the oil finish necks.

Woody,
This "S" bass profile is either exactly like or very close to the profile on my 2011 4003. It's a D profile for sure. My 82 4001 is very different. It's not as wide. The two are very different. My Spector has a stout and chunky C profile. I've thought of sending that out to be shaved to a nice "Wimbish" profile but I'm not sure the color could be matched. That's what has stopped me from having that done. There is a guy a few miles from the Spector studio in upstate NY who claims to be able to do that but I'd have to travel up there to talk to him before I thought about doing that.
