A hot band performing at a peak level. That December 7, 1963 clip is too much! I've seen stills from that show, with Paul playing through an AC30 head, but never saw the video before. Re the interview: It was interesting to hear the differences in McCartney and Lennon's attitudes towards people covering their material.

Thanks for posting Brammy. I forwarded this on to a drumming Ringo fan and friend. I've heard that Ludwig made so much from Ringo's endorsement that they bought out Premier Drums and for years excluded them from the American market. Imagine if Ringo had kept playing Premiers, or if George had managed to beat Rory Storm's guitarist to that Stratocaster.

I'm glad that when the Beatles became known they weren't playing on Fenders. I love'em but the Beatles had such an unusual look compared to everyone else and their choice of guitars was one of the big reasons.

That's an interesting thought. Did the instruments they played actually make them what they are? What if they all did play Fenders or Gibsons, would the music, itself, have been enough to propel them to the status they have?

George played lead guitar in the truest sense of the word. His lines led the songs through the changes. That's what I love about his work. Can you imagine McCartney with a lefty Fender Mustang...

They certainly did their part to be different; the suits, the hair, the different guitars, they were bringing good music and good looks.
Result: millions of screaming girls lol, so it worked well obviously
