While there are two holes in the base plate of the current 4003 bridge hi-gain to accommodate bolting any RIC pickup to it, the holes are too big for any screw that will pass through the corresponding holes in the pickups. You need to use a long 4-40 machine thread screw with a nut on the end to hold the pickup in place. I prefer the older style base plate where you can use the small wood screws that come with HB1's and Toasters & Hi-gains for guitars after drilling two small holes in them.

So, in order to install a HB1 in the bridge position in my 4003, I need to ground the red, black and shield to the pot and solder the blue to the hot bridge side of the switch. Correct?

Norris.....All you need to do is reverse the blue and red wires. The blue is HOT and the red is GROUND. The black and clear wires remain together, and the shield is still the ground. HB1's (as with most humbuckers) sound best with 500K volume pots and .022uF tone caps

Where are you at? If in the USA give a call to Pick of the Ricks. Chris Clayton will set you up, they are usually in stock (although I'm not sure about the gold hardware).
