Walnut 4003

Post by partime »

Question, does anyone know if Rickenbacker intends to make the walnuts for a limited time or for a long time? Probably a mystery.

I had a feeling this was a dumb question, never mind.

It may have been assumed by some retailers or consumers that the W was going to be a one-year-only or limited in some way, but I've not found anything to confirm that. I suspect if people keep buying and ordering them, they'll keep makin' 'em!

I think it is a valid question, not a dumb one. I also got the distinct impression when the Walnuts were announced that it was Ben Hall's idea, and he's the one that's going to be running the company whenever John Hall decides to step down, if I understand correctly. So unless there is some kind of spike in the price of Walnut or something, I would expect them to be a regular model for awhile. I especially like the clean lines of the 4003S in Walnut. If I had a picture of one handy, I'd post it.

OP: why would you think this is a dumb question?

I think that second post's comment had to do with his waiting several hours without getting a reply...

Well thanks for the nice comments, my own opinion before posting was similar to Paul's post. Thank you Paul. I have wanted one for a while and started thinking if they discontinue, the prices might spike. Then yes, after zero comments I realized few know what Rickenbacker plans so it might be a hard question to comment on. Patience should have been practiced even for this older kid.

It is my understanding that this is another line amongst all models. They may stop it at some point, just like other series, etc.

I looooooove mine !!!

Does anyone have pictures of a 4003W with a chrome/mirror pickguard? I love the walnut, but don't really like the big slab of white plastic over much of it.

Check out a 650D Dakota for the closest existing approximation. I've always preferred gold to chrome over walnut.

You're preaching to the choir on the virtues of gold on top of walnut, but that would require a lot more replacements on a 4003W than just a pickguard.

Yeah, looks great, but . . . WHAT A PLAYER! I've never heard of him or the group (I don't get out much), but that was masterful!
