Hi-gain wire question

Post by j.alderton »

Greetings, folks.

I have a quick question about Hi-gain pickup wiring. While swapping out my pickups, I noticed the end of the winding wire had broken away from the main, grey wire (see attached image).

Right where the grey insulation ends and it is soldered to the base of the surround, there is a small piece of black tubing/insulation that seems to be the place where the (now) free wire was connected.

Do I simply need to re-solder these together?

Thanks for any recommendations. Great to be a part of this forum.

Can you post a larger photo, and without the foam ring blacking just where we need to see  ?

It sounds like you're asking if you should solder the wire to the tubing... no... you will want to solder the wire to the wire that's down inside that tubing. Maybe that's what you meant.

If that's the right wire.

You'll need to remove the heat shrink tubing, slide some more down the wire, re-solder the connection, then slide the heat shrink back over the connection and re-solder it.
