I'm not sure, but the blue looks a little bright for Azureglo, 'course, lighting, etc. has a lot to do with how a picture looks. Then again, the only "official" reference I've got is my '76 4001 Azureglo, which, with 40 years of ageing probably doesn't have it's original color either.

BTW, I paid about $800 for it, but that was 15 or so years ago. Oh, and it's NOT for sale...

Wholly smokes she is gorgeous! $800 as little as 15 years ago that's insane.

When did the prices begin to go crazy? Seems most AzureGlo 4001's I see randomly listed are between $2200 - $5000. The higher prized ones always have CB binding.

Edit: I captured pictures of your bass and Paul's to A/B, and I can't decide which color I prefer. Of course, Paul's receives an edge due to the CB.

No question that mine is "brighter" because I asked for it that way on the refin. Supposedly, the original "Azureglo" was based on a Volkswagen color (Sea Blue or Gulf Blue), but the color varied over the years. I knew the "correct" (I suppose the "average") blue wasn't as bright, but I wanted it bright, so there it is. Also, the tailpiece and bridge are newer than vintage, and I don't know about the electronics. If someone wants to be a vintage purist, this bass isn't going to do it for them. But this does have the original chassis and crushed-pearl inlays. I believe the checker binding is replacement stock.

Welcome to the RRF! Somewhat sad story, but keep looking, maybe horse trade if you have some other good basses...a new 4003s is about $1300 - that's s pretty strong deal in my eyes. The vintage/near-vintage Ricks are good/great, but the new ones are very consistently very good or better.

I do have some other good basses. I currently play bass for three different bands. The hippie stoner jam band gets the Mapleglo 4001. The high energy cover band gets the modified white 4000 and the Carvin LB75. The low energy cover band gets the transgreen 4004Cii and the Ovation Celebrity.

I also have a Burgundyglo 4001 with Bartolini pickups, a Midnight Blue 4003 with Alembic electronics and a Mapleglo 3001.

I'd love to see a pic of the back of your actual one. I used to own one with a little "snake" in the wood figuring on the back, and I've always wondered who ended up with it!
