OK, right. I've lost track. The original owner was Steve Berndt (sp?) up in Stevens Point, WI, so you make owner No. 4.

The guy came down to $2200, and I'll be shipping him the check within the next day or two :D :D :D Already picturing the look on my Dad's face, even if he is gonna get it about 8 months early.
A couple of things to be wary about with C64's.... The tailpiece will lift if you use strings with higher tension than the original strings, and due to the neck pickup route going all of the way to the base of the fretboard, the neck has been known to pitch upward a couple of millimeters or so, resulting in high action that cannot be adjusted lower at the bridge. High tension strings will only make this situation worse. 4003S models made since April 2015 have had this route revised (finally!) and will be less of an issue. As with all 4003's, the extra two screws further back on the tailpiece will keep it from lifting.

Well the guys has said the tailpiece has lifted a bit initially, but hasn't moved in many years, and people seem to think it isn't a huge deal. As far as the neck tension, I'll let my dad know about that when he gets it, so he can use lower tension strings.

Well guys, I gave my dad his 4001c64 today. Needless to say he was absolutely ecstatic. Since I had it, I saw no need to wait until his birthday to give it to him. WE spent the day getting it setup, and he absolutely loves it. Thank you all for all of your help!

All is well that ends well. Congrats to Dad.

My own 2003 C64S is an outstanding bass and one of my favorites. It was so perfectly made...the frets and the fretboard, the positioning, alignment, and choice of all hardware, the whole neck blank is as strong as a flagpole... What's not to like? I know that some have had some issues, but I would guess that it's only a small percentage.

That's a cool story ... all things seem to work out like that are supposed to... Glad your dad is enjoying the bass.
