Modern vs. Vintage Pickguard Screw Holes
I've always wanted a Rickenbacker 4000, and now that I own a beautiful Rickenbacker 2015 4003S, that desire is easily obtainable. So the question is: would a 4000 pickguard lineup properly with modern screw hole placement?
Re: Modern vs. Vintage Pickguard Screw Holes
Maybe, maybe not. Best thing to do would be have Pickguardian make you a pickguard for the bass with no neck pickup hole and just the two pot holes (okay, waiting for the responses to that!
).
Re: Modern vs. Vintage Pickguard Screw Holes
Not going to talk you out of the idea, but there's been many times i wished my 4000 had a neck pickup.
As far as screw hole alignment,my '72 and '74 pickguards aren't even the same.
(So Pickguardian would be your best bet, like Jeff said).

I haven't really liked the neck profiles of recent year 4003's that i've tried....but i know they're all a bit different anyway,right?
The neck on my '74 is pretty much Rickperfection......
