Beautiful.

So, "not a one off"... assuming, then, a limited run?

Street price guess? $2400?

Pretty cool. Probably limited to 25 though.

I dunno-

If you read the comments in the FB post from yesterday,
The following comment was made.

"If you make a 330/6 in this color scheme, I'm in! Beauty!"

To which Rickenbacker Guitars (Official) replied-

"Watch this space then ;)"

If they would make this finish in a 330/6 there would have to be more than 25 4003s, no?

You said it: no. Although there will probably be more basses than guitars anyway, as limited run basses seem to sell better (check current availability of older run basses vs guitars!)

I am now wondering what a 360 in this outfit would look like... mmm... that would be tempting!

Damn, I saw this one on the FB feed. Stunning instrument, IMHO. While I do like the look of ebony, it does tend to mellow the tone. While that works for the 4002, nicely I might add, the ebony with the "darker" spec'd pots on the 4003, I'm not sure I'd be thrilled.

I'm thrilled that RIC is thinking outside of the box here as of late! Huge Kudo's Ben, if this was your idea. The re-issue of the "S" series was awesome and this Blackbird was a huge step in the right direction. Do I want one?? Damn straight I do!! I'm a sucker for Checker board binding and black hardware. If I purchase one I'd see how it goes and quite possibly have Dane make me a close spec. 60's harness with Ajax caps and maybe even a pair of Classic Amplification 60's pick ups. I'd have to see what the price tag is first. I'm surprised that PotR doesn't have any advance order info on the site. I'd buy from Chris in a heartbeat.

I wonder. Are these Blackbirds being made for a specific vendor. like the 50th Anniversary Macca bass GC marketed a few years back or is is going to be a 4003 option available to all vendors like the "S" bass??

I don't want to read too much into it but I'm thinking everyone will get a crack at it, since RIC previewed it on their site. If they made it for a specific vendor to sell as a limited run, I doubt we would have known about it until it was launched.

Thoughts??

I'm afraid there will be no more NOS Ajax caps. I started with 100 of them, and just sold my last pair in a harness. I'm thinking I'll start stocking Zoso blue caps as an equivalent replacement though.

My source told me that 25 of the 4003 "Noir" basses were made. They were not for a specific vendor. Priced about $550 more than a standard 4003.

I was able to snag one from Wildwood Guitars. It shipped to them on Thursday and I hope to get it next week.
