DR Hi-Beams

I can't stand T! Jazz flats!! Too floppy. Jeff, I've never tried the Jazz Rounds.

I use a .040 to .095 set of HI-Beams. I might try .040 to .100 next time. I don't think they're as bright as Rotosound. They don't seem to be eating the frets either. I leave them on a long time. hth

Speaking of DR's,i recently decided to check out a set of Pure Blues,apparently Vic Wooten's favored strings now.
(They were on sale,and i'm a sucker for a bargain).
They feel and sound absolutely fantastic on my Yamaha BB1200.
But for some reason, i still don't sound anything like Victor.

I recently tried a set of DR Hi-Beams. I liked them, but I not enough that I should pay more for stainless steel roundwound strings than I do for D'Addario Pro Steels From my perspective, the difference in price looks better in my pocket, especially since having several basses to buy strings for.

Better to find out with a set of DRs than with a custom Fodera!

Also, I want to +1 the Sun Beams recommendation here. I don't have them on my Ric (Fat Beams all the way), but I have them on an old Odyssey bass with Bartolinis in it, and they sound and feel wonderful. I don't know what DR does to make so many great strings... probably a deal with the devil or something like that.

The only time I saw Zawinul was with the Syndicate, Linley Marthe was playing bass with him at that time. I've never seen Weather Report but I did see Peter Erskine when he did a clinic with The Ohio State university Jazz Ensemble in the early '80s, and I saw Jaco with Joni Mitchell in 1979.

Oh yeah, I forgot. I met Alfonso Johnson while I was checking out the The Bass Exchange, in Tarzana, sometime in the late '90s. He was there getting some gear for a show, or something.

The Dean Markley Helix SS strings have been working well for me. I put a set on my main practice bass and they stayed zingy for over a year. I am very surprised and very satisfied with them.

I just switched from 45-105 DR Hi-Beams to 45-105 DR Lo-Riders on my 4003. Loving these very much. I would say halfway between Hi-Beams and Rotos.
