4001v63 vs 4003 in vintage mode

Post by DiMarco »

Hi there. Anyone ever compared the two?

I purchased a v63 earlier this week and after setting it up to near perfection I now checked how the 2012 4003 stacks up against this 2000 v63.
The 4003 with stock electronics (but with a toaster) is holding its own amazingly well against the v63 with its NOS caps and pots upgrade.

The v63 sounds "richer" and seems to have a little more presence but above all it reacts differently when you dig in.
I yet have to test how different this will sound within the total band mix but my hopes are high for the v63 to be like glue within the mix.

The v63 has a higher output level then the 4001, which makes my (Darkglass) overdrive pedals more responsive as well, which is a good thing.

Also, have some eyecandy!

Sweet! I love the JETGLO couple! I also love the look of the V63 Jetglo with a back painted gold pickguard on it...matching vintage stye nameplate also, of course.
I wonder how the gold plastic would look on my Fireglo 4001V63?

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I have considered the gold pickguard and trussrod cover but my cat prefers things the way they are. But then my cat has a Jetglo finish too.

What a splendid trio! I see the third one is also in jetglo with contrasting white chest-guard and paws-ition markers! :)

Great for making meow-sic!

Tuesday nights are practice night. We are lucky enough to have a pub at our disposal for this every week.... For maximum result I also brought my 1961 Gibson SG Special so our guitarplayer would sound awesome.

The v63 sounds AMAZING in the mix. Wow! This is where the 4003 had to step down and bow to the new king. There were lots of compliments, our drummer told me dude this sounds like Chris Squire... Best thing anyone could have possibly said to me at that moment...
