Was your Ric bass shipped or bought in store?

Seems like getting them shipped is getting popular.

If you shipped, how did it work out for you?

I have NEVER bought a bass from a store, in person. Mostly because there were no stores within driving distance. I have never had any problems with getting them shipped. I have bought several from Wildwood in Colorado, they are great to deal with. I bought some from other dealers who are no longer dealers so I won't mention them, but had no problems with them either...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

this.

I've had nearly 20 Ricks, all bought sight unseen. Never really had a bad one. :D

I've never had a bad one, either, but the neck on my 4004Cii is much thicker than on any of my other 400Xs. If I'd been able to play it first, I might not have bought it.

I bought all three of my RICs used, one from a friend and it was fabulous, the others were shipped from online stores.

My 610 was an easy deal and has been a great playing guitar. Although my 4003fl is a fine bass I probably would have passed if I'd been able to play it first and had other, more convenient choices available. I really wanted a 4003fl, was under a time constraint and thought I'd be able to live with it's minor flaw, but it has turned out to be a bit of a challenge. My hope is that when it's finished it'll be all the bass I think it will. I don't buy and sell things readily; when I commit, I commit.

I won't say that I wouldn't buy and deal long distance again, but thankfully I don't need more instruments anyway. Well, there's still room for an archtop...

Rics ship well in my experience. I've never bought any in person.

Variability in neck profile and to a lesser extent overall health seems to be the biggest unknown. It seems like the necks got a lot more consistent in recent years, with a nice profile somewhere between a C and a D shape. The 2-piece design makes it very stable. My 2016 4003S came perfect out of the box (from Wildwood Guitars).

My 4001FL was the diciest purchase. I bought it cheaply on eBay, knowing the body had been mangled and it may not have been well cared for. It turned out to be an amazing deal for someone like me, because the neck was in great shape and with a great profile.

I bought my first Rick used back in 1991. It was a 1975 4001 white with black pickguard/binding from a small store.
My new Ricks (4001c64s, 4003 Blueburst, 4003 FG, 4003W, 4003S FG) I ordered from my local Rick dealer.
