JK 381 5th knob
I am looking for information on what the small 5th knob does on the Ric JK381. Most Rickenbackers that feature a fifth knob use this position to hold a potentiometer that acts, more or less, as a bass/treble balance control. It rotates from full CCW to full CW with no detents. On the JK381, the knob is a 4 position switch. According to the manual, position 1 is Off but the manual does not elaborate on the other three positions. I sent a note to Rickenbacker tech folk but the only info they had was to refer me to the manual, which they kindly re-supplied me.
Any help with this would be gleefully accepted!

This may be what you already have but it's all I could find.
Hope it helps!

Very cool introduction in the manual by John.

Re: JK 381 5th knob
Boy, that manual doesn't explain the little knob, does it? Can you describe what the second, third, and fourth positions sound like?

As you rotate the knob clockwise, each position gets more.jdogric12 wrote:...Can you describe what the second, third, and fourth positions sound like?

Re: JK 381 5th knob
C. Passive mode (standard output jack) clearly explains what the little bugger does in each position. I'm assuming fully clockwise is the the final position explained in active mode.
Re: JK 381 5th knob
As I understand it, position 4 is active mode, which is adjusted with the 4 other knobs and the selector switches.
Position one to three are passive mode pickup selection, as the other switches only work in active mode
