Saw A 4001CS with Real CS Autograph at...

I visited Lark Street Music in Teaneck NJ (USA) last week (larkstreetmusic.com).

They have a simply gorgeous 4001CS with a real autograph from Chris Squire.

This is the listing from their web site:

Fortunately for you, this hand-signed autograph is on the pickguard. Replace the pickguard - maybe stick it in a drawer to preserve its condition - and it's gone!

IIRC it has been determined that somewhere between 800-900 had only been built. So, more than ~20% possibly.

A big part of what makes a 4001CS a limited edition instrument is that pickguard. Other than that, the fingerboard and headstock wings, and paint jobs are the only things that distinguish a CS model from a V63 model. I'll take the V63 for a third the price thanks, if there is no um-modified Sig pickguard on the bass.

Date of Build: January 15, 1996.

It is in the register already from 1999 listed as being in New Zealand. It was not marked as a Lefty though.

So perhaps this one has the certificate for the other guy's bass? (No image of the jackplate to confirm alas). A mystery.

So other than the pickguard, the paint, the body, the shape, the wings... Yes it's pretty much the same.

Since the beginning of the world, every item you buy with a signature on it is higher priced (I'm not saying that I'm ok with it). But when it's a 4001CS, if there is a real signature on the same pickguard as the printed one, it lowered his value? And the only thing that give value to a CS is the printed signature on the pickguard?
