Mystery bass in official Ric Instagram feed
Anyone want to hazard a guess about the 5th bass pictured in this factory row?

I see a reverse headstock, white finish, and what appears to be an ebony fingerboard with dot inlays. Do my eyes deceive me? Is this a one-off?

Also, I may be crazy, but doesn't it appear that the neck cavity on each of those basses extends right up to the edge of the fretboard?
Re: Mystery bass in official Ric Instagram feed
How about all those guitars that look like a Walnutglo/MB kind of finish?
Re: Mystery bass in official Ric Instagram feed
also a white/black bound guitar.

Note that both the white/Snowglo instruments have very dark fingerboards. Macassar ebony?
Re: Mystery bass in official Ric Instagram feed
I'd say the 2 snowglo instruments were made for the same person / band.

It sure does!ibal wrote:Also, I may be crazy, but doesn't it appear that the neck cavity on each of those basses extends right up to the edge of the fretboard?

Maybe they've figured out how to route all the supporting wood away and still be able to keep the necks from moving?ibal wrote:Also, I may be crazy, but doesn't it appear that the neck cavity on each of those basses extends right up to the edge of the fretboard?
Re: Mystery bass in official Ric Instagram feed
I think this unlikely. Especially when you consider that the body wings were moved back about 1/4" several years ago, leaving even less wood in this area.teeder wrote:Maybe they've figured out how to route all the supporting wood away and still be able to keep the necks from moving?

Ya, I probably should have inserted a
, but's nothing to
about.

Re: Mystery bass in official Ric Instagram feed
Probably just the lighting, but it really does look like the cavity extends to the end of the neck.
Maybe we're looking at a few scrap pieces set there to get us talking. I would'nt think they'd get past the finish process though...

FWIW, I believe this photo is several years old (and was probably discussed here), and this is not the official Rickenbacker Instagram page (despite what it says).

Not sure about the third but it looks to me like the first and second basses also have neck pup routes up to the board...

It's just a 4001C64S with the reverse headstock.
