I recently scored a '66 340 (RH) and the knob placement is puzzling. To put it in a nutshell...
Looking stright on at the guitar (neck out to your right),
are the two top knobs supposed to be tone and the two lower knobs supposed to be volume?
X-bridge tone X-neck/mid tone
X-bridge vol X-neck/mid vol
The guitar is with my tech so I need to let him know for sure. Right now these are switched but the knobs aren't. (????)
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best, Dave

The layout of the controls is as following ;
While holding a right handed Rick with a switch four standard sized knobs ,and a 5th smaller knob ,you get -
on the string side ...the neck pickup tone ...then the bridge pickup tone
the selector switch
then below that you get ...the neck pickup volume ...then the bridge pickup volume
between and behind the Bridge pickup volume and tone controls is a smaller /5th knob .That is explained in an earlier posting called-
"The 5th Knob....what does it do?" This is from
5-11-2001 that posting defines everything that this knob does and why.
The knob layout of Rickenbacker has almost always been this way ....it is not Standard industry layout and many players do change the layout to match other brands.For some repairpeople this can be confusing ....even the best .
