Ah, decisions, decisions. But if you're like me Paul, you have a depth chart of what you would like to get next.

Sometimes one gets lucky with the flash:

The color still isn't quite right: the color near the edges is more like a dark burgundy, not a brown or black.

That's why I have Photoshop. It has several nice features, like color balance and color shift, which gets things much closer to "real life". It also helps under/over exposure. There are a few derivative programs which are freeware that can be downloaded.

Josh, nice try but your edges are too light...did you do a color replace command with a lighter violet or what? Subtlety and great care are necessary.

Here are two examples I just tried. The first one is from pickofthericks "as posted"; bad color as photographed, poor contrast, etc.Image

About two or three minutes with Photoshop and the result looks like this:Image

Again, this is on the web, so colors may have shifted again. Newest versions have a "save to web" color command which previews in web colors, but I'm using a 3-year-old version.

I forgot to add, with Photoshop, you can add layers, modify the layers, and then flatten the whole thing again. I could also erase the MADE IN USA tag on the photo in a few seconds, or could probably change color to Blueburst (for example) with a bit more work. I'll give it a shot and post a bit later.

Here's my idea of Blueburst, done with layers and color shifting. Took about 15 minutes:Image

About the only problem seems to be a loss of smoothness in the blend of the Blueburst into the natural center. It's nice on the original, a bit abrupt in the web version.

Dueling Ricks. And you win! Your BB is really well-done.

You really rise to a challenge!
