Christopher, ask the seller if he will consider shipping to Europe, maybe charge a bit more for shipping, it's a piece of plastic, I can't see why not... worth asking anyway. Living in Israel I've done it a lot.

God, I love the sence of humor here on this forum. I'm serious! It's great! About the bart's. God bless. As long as you own a Rick, it's all good. If I had a 2nd Rick, I'd try a set just to see how they sound. However, I only own 1 4001, and I can't seem to be able to change anything on it other than strings. Either DR round wounds or RotoSound Swing Bass round wounds. Actually, I wish I had the guts to change the finish on my bass from the burgandyglo to the jetglo. By the way, going with bart's aren't as bad as what Cliff Burton (from Metallica) did to his old 4001 burgandyglo. he not only replaced the bridge pickup, he replaced the neck pickup with one of those large chrome Gibson humbucker pickups. Now that is just wrong, to cut up any Rickenbacker! Stock sized pickups don't ruin a classic masterpiece.
Thanks for the offer, Jim.
I think I should be alright - the second link ships worldwide (and I'm only in Canada). I'm just trying to figure out if Brian has a preference of the two or if he's going for both of them.
Hey Jeff - I won't be going too crazy as far as my ceiling figure, but I'll just say that I *have* paid stupid money a time or two in the past.
Off topic, but speaking of stupid money that had me intrigued - in the last couple days there were *TWO* Maestro Bass Brassmasters on eBay - a NOS piece that went for $1300 U.S., and a used one that fetched $850ish! I thought I was a bit crazy when I paid $500 a couple years ago for mine, but maybe I knew what I was doing all along!

I've also paid "stupid money" for stuff in the past and WILL NOT be doing so this time. Like I said, I have another plan that I am kinda keen on trying anyway so either one of these aren't worth me shelling out big bucks that could be better spent on my other hobbies/obsessions.
If you are looking to get a piece for a restoration, I'll hold off on further bidding since my quest is more "just because" related and I can make do without it.

That's awfully sporting of you Brian, I appreciate it.
Don't worry though, I'm not married to the idea that I *need* to have one of these two. I recently picked up 2 white plastic TRCs - the thinking was to trade one in for black (somehow figuring out how to get hold of plexi style), and use the other as a spare for maybe turning my 4003S/8 into a Winterglo. Just some half a**ed planning on my part (and I'm a packrat as well, so sometimes I can't help myself
).
If we're going to consider each other (assuming no one else is in the mix), why don't you go for the U.S. shipping one, and I'll go for the worldwide? The only downside of that is if there's a wild difference in final bid prices, but it seems like we're both in the situation where it's not life and death.

Thanks for the tip, Jeffrey. The fly in the ointment is that it needs to be black though.
AFAIK, those aren't available, correct? I still may end up doing that for a white one though, with the thought of hanging on to it until such time as they start making black again, or I run across someone who has one and wants to trade. I see both situations being pretty remote, which means I'll need lots of patience.
Geez - all this planning for a truss rod cover.

Hey Chris. I've had some truss cover dealing with RIC recently also. They will exchange colors and exchange raised-letter for plexi. But I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have a black plexi.
Another thing to consider is that the vintage re-issue plexi ones (that I have anyway) are longer and wider and have a different third screw location than the raised-letter ones.
As a matter of fact...I have a v63 truss cover that's off and an unstrung 1980 4001 here in the room with me, so I'll look!
I just sized them up for you and it doesn't look right. The v63 truss cover is about 3/4" longer. The v63 TRC would extend all the way to the end of the headstock. But also it is so much fatter that it would have to be trimmed (about 1/8" circular cut) or it will be on top of the black skirt for the tuner peg on the D string.
I hope this helps!

Play what you love, love what you play!
Hey Brian - just wondering if you're still going for the black TRC (I bid high on the worldwide shipping offering, but someone wanted it much more), as I see someone else is the high bidder now. If you are, I'll stay away - if not, I'm thinking of contacting the seller to see if he'll consider shipping to Canada (I *think* I recognize the seller's name from various Rick circles).

No....not after seeing what the other one went for. I actually stopped today and picked up my supplies to refinish the one I have ($11).
If there is a problem with shipping to Canada just let me know and I can serve as a go between. If you need me to bid on it it because of the sellers anti-Canada stance just email me with your max bid and I'll put it in for you. Good Luck.....bid high

Brian - first off, thanks for the offer, etc. I was under the gun timewise yesterday afternoon - I got the okay from the seller, read your post (but didn't have time to respond), fired off a bid, and made it to work with 2 minutes to spare!
After all that, I didn't win the auction anyway.
Just for the record (if anyone cares), I'm a truck driver, which means I put in unpredictable and hellaciously sucky hours. That means that quite often, sometimes when it counts most, I can't get back to a post or thread in a timely manner. I just don't want anyone to get the impression that I'm blowing them off.
