4004 LK / Lemmy Bass sells for $22,000 USD

Post by collin »

Is this really what these things are selling for now?

Ebay shows a sale price of 17,900 EUR (nearly $22K right now).

Discuss.

Only have the evidence presented.

And it says "sold"

The question is whether it will be relisted or not.

Originally under $2k, I think.

I suppose it already being in Germany was a big plus for EU buyers, not having to pay 16% VAT on $20K!

According to the book (ahem), the original price listed in December 1995 (five years before most were made) was $2,429. The Jan. 1998 price sheet listed it for $2,799. It was not listed on the Jan. 2000 price sheet, but reappeared on the Jan. 2001 price sheet again for $2,799. It appears that the first production Lemmys were issued in early 2001 and last in 2006. 8)

And, well, Golly Gee! You can get a matched set of replacement pickups to retrofit it from SD for only a few hundred....

I often wondered if that model was uncomfortable due to the carvings.
Seems like it would leave some interesting looking dents in your forearm.

The carvings are maybe 3/4" inside a flat border with a "sharp" binding around that. Some players don't like the bound bodies if they are resting their forearm on the edge. You'd be hard pressed (sorry) to get the inboard carvings to make impressions on your forearm. :) Plus, the carving is bas relief, carved into the surface not standing proud of the surface.

Someone really wanted the first one sold to the public, I guess?

Or maybe they forgot the rule "Never go on eBay drunk!"

As Paul indicates the carvings are sunk:

Every Lemmy was carved by hand by this gentleman, and no two carved pairs of wings were the same.
