Remember way back when Ebay was just a young pup, you might find only 2 or 3 Rickenbackers? Anyway, i was going through some old posts on alt.guitar.rickenbacker and I found this gem:
Jan 27, '98
4003S TUXEDO
White finish, white fretboard, black hardware.  Finish has some minor
"yellowing" and a few finish checks.  Plays well with others.  Ohsc, worn.  Vg
++.  Pic available.  $700.(!) :-)

eBay is a joke now, especially with the jump from 3% to 8% in surcharges/takings. Grrrr eBay.

Yeah, I'm gonna TRY to avoid selling on the 'bay as much as possible....

The internet, in general, is turning out to be a very good source for our hobby, especially within little communities like this....

I believe the rate increase on Ebay is for people with Ebay stores, not the general public.

I have to agree with you here. Seems to me that Ebay is slowly going to the dogs in that you have to be twice or three times as careful as ever to avoid all the cons that are out there. These guys are becomming increasingly professional. I personally know of two folks who have been ripped off and unfortunately, there isn't a lot that can be done about it. I have, more or less, sworn off Ebay. I am chalking my past experiences as "lucky". I have never gotten burned, but I figured that at the rate I was going, it was just a matter of time.

I got dinged with a "send us your updated Paypal Data" email the other day, this thing was done by professionals, and done extremely well.

The only, (and I do mean the only thing) that gave them away was
A: I know Ebay/Paypal neever ask for this data

B: Me doing a reverse lookup on what was suppoed to be the link I should click on.

Although it was an illegal link part of the domain name had "ebay" in its structure. Once it was traced however it din't go to any Ebay server farms.

The sad thing is Ebay's reporting process won't allow you to forward the whole email intact so that all the detail in HTML and Scripting is available to them.

That's one reason I won't use PayPal. If I buy anything on E-bay it's by check or Money Order. I had the same type of Fraud E-mail info sent to me last summer, it was easy to see thru right away when they want your bank account and routing number, I'd have to be pretty lame to send out that kinda info on the internet.

That is one convoluted system boy. Trying to contact them is an exercise in frustration. There are ways though.

I use PayPal and have never had a problem although I've gotten the bogus E-mails too.

I use it but don't like it, they are VERY controlling with MY money. I very rarely sell anything though but my wife does, I tell her to take the money right out of her paypal account.
