Seth: I have seen some 481's with the switch that you describe which seems to be with humbucking pickups. Some were manufactured with a phase reversal switch. I suspect that this is what you have noted.

With regard to 480 pricing, I have seen them online for around $1200. US with one on Ebay just a short time ago going for $1900!

You know... In fact the 480 is a terrific instrument, and I wonder if it would be possible to re-release it, maybe with some modern updating, like RIC has done with the 760. I'd definitely get one

Peter, the one with the big humbuckers on it is a slant-fret, is it not?

I can't get enough of that Burgundyglo 480. Gorgeous. Has the same sort of appeal as a W.W.II British warplane. Savage and sultry but exuding a workingman's practicality all the while.

Very poetic, Noel!

Longhouse: An apt description of this very nice instrument. It is very comfortable to hold with the rounded upper body and the cutaway allows for easy access up the neck. My 350 is a comfortable player but this is an easier play still. I am really taken by it.

I'm changing the subject a bit...

Peter it's too bad that 360/12V64 is in Jetglo, if it was a Fireglo I'd almost be willing to buy it... I wouldn't have to pay some shipping, I could pick it up myself!
I wonder if C63's will be cheap in the used market...

Hi all! I was wondering what different finishes the 480 was available between 1974-1983? Which finishes have you seen?

After mailing some 250 guitar shop arounds the world, I'm still looking for one, any finish... :-(

Mikko: The colours from 1974 to 1983, at least from the information I have, would have been Mapleglo, Fireglo, Jetglo, Walnut, White, Burgundyglo, Azureglo, and from 1980 on you could add at least Ruby and Silver, perhaps a couple more.

The 480 would be the perfect addition to the Ric line, with some updates. Neck thru or set neck as well as bolt on. Dressy and Plain versions. Various pickup combinations. Honestly I'd feel it would surpass the 620 lines, which as nice as they are, have just too small a body profile for most adult guitar players. I think the 480 would make a perfect new-ish line, if they had the time and desire.

Lots of possibilities here Bob. I am really enjoying this instrument as it is a terrific player. The body size is just right, larger and more comfortable to hold compared to my Model 350.

I find it to be a great for lead work, again it lends itself to this more than my 350. I am not exactly sure why this is so, surface of the fretboards is essentially the same. The easy access to the upper frets is something I really appreciate. Time to spend more time on my 350 for the sake of comparison.
