Now for some fun stuff...The 2 ebay UK listings above show us some interesting basses. Here's why....the red in the second is the "ferrari" red....Not too fond of that one....Now, notice on the burgundy, on the picture of the back how the skunk stripe is showing in a section but not showing in another section. the azure that I have is doing the same thing...the color seems to cover the stripe for awhile and as it ages, it moves off the walnut stripe and there it is....this is the third or fourth time I have seen this occur on a 70's series 4001....This may help us clear up some of that "red vs. burg vs???" that we have been discussing...

Jaymi, I've seen that before also. Surprised to hear that the azure is like that too.

Hi, Everyone this is my first post, although I have sent messages back and forth with Jaymi. Anyway here is the story, I just bought what appears to be a Dec. 1975 4000 bass. in what looks to be ruby, although I have heard this color wasn't made til the 80's it does not seem to be refinished and the pot and wiring look original it has a black pick guard and black plexi trc. It is a metalic red paint with a clear over it. Which leaves out a few other options any help would be great...by the way is the 4000 odd because not many posts that I have seen talk about it.

Hey there Greg, welcome to the Forum, if you have any pics of your bass it'd be great to see them.

Hey guys! Speaking of Ruby...I'm sort of photographically as well as technologically challenged(among other difficulties).

I took some photos of a couple of my Ricks for insurance purposes from my Brother's digital camera last summer. Well, the project ended when the camera ran out of batteries and my bro hadn't left me the charger. Bro finally got around to emailing me photos of my 1987 Ruby 4003S yesterday. I'd like to post them here, but I don't have the correct software installed to get the photo down to the size limit.

Can anybody help me out? I can email the jpegs if you can post them?!

I believe that '78 was the first year of Ruby, and yes Foxton had one of the first year, I believe a guy at Manny's in NY said he and Paul Weller ordered their guitars from them. I believe Paul's guitar was a Burgandy, but Bruce had Ruby, clearly visible on,"This Is The Modern World", "New Art School", and the "Billy Hunt", video from The Old Gray Whistle Test appearance.
The DVD shows it well, especially the close up in
the "Modern World" video.

I for one love Ruby.

But it is a fact, Ruby with BT is... bleah, REALLY 80s.

Not that I dislike it, nor is my bleah a connotation of disdain, I simply wanted to go bleah.

Infact, bleah to you again.
