The 4005XC finally made it to Ozland
I guess these must have been on a slow boat to Oz but my local shop finally received a Jetglo and an Amberglo.
The Jetglo is now mine.
What an awsome sounding bass. Quite overpriced considering the less than perfect finish but hey… we only live once.
Not sure why these are strung with roundwond strings though. These screams flatwounds. Re-stringing made me realise they are an horror to re-string.
You need to love that ole engineering from Ric.

Your Jet 4001 looks great!

I intend to put flats on mine, at least to try them out.
As for why RIC put rounds on, I'd guess that it's because that's what they use these days. That way, they have to buy only one kind of strings rather than two.

I’ve put some D’Addario Chromes on. Not my favorite flatwounds but it will do until I receive a pair of Thomastik.
I definitely prefer the 4005XC with flatwounds. Obviously, a matter of taste.

I finally ordered and received a set of TI JF344. These are now installed on my 4005XC, reminding me this bass is a pain to re-string.
To say it’s a very good match would be an understatement.
The D’Addario Chromes had some weird overtones requiring foam to be inserted under the strings between the bridge and the trapeze tailpiece to tame these. The TI just fell into place perfectly. I could ditch the foam

Interesting comment about the chromes. I have a set on my XC, and have noticed the same thing. I even put foam under them by the tailpiece also. I might have an old set of TIs around- maybe I’ll give it a shot. I was planning on putting the factory strings back on, but I’m a flat wound guy.

The TI intonates better too. I could not move the E string saddle back enough to set the intonation correctly with the Chromes while the TI intonation is spot on.chrisdski wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 7:42 pm Interesting comment about the chromes. Looks great! love the fingerboard on that one.

These are much easier to string if you do one string at a time. I use Chromes too, but it's the set with two lighter gauges in it so that the strings are more balanced tension-wise. No weird overtones noticed though.
