4004CII 2004 neck size…

Post by henry5 »

Hi all! Am I correct in assuming a 2004 Cheyenne II would have a really big neck? I once played one from about 2008 and it was huge.

Yes. But it all comes down to what each of us prefer. My '4004Cii''s neck was too large for my comfort, but there are many who find them perfect.

Hi Jeff!

Well the one I had (sometime after 2012) was fine, but my benchmarks are my two ‘72 4001s. I can play a bigger neck, but what I meant was is a 2004 likely to be as huge as a 2008? Because that would be a no-no for me.

I've forgotten alot of this stuff, but my uneducated guess is the 2004 would be a very big neck.

Where's that "Measure Your Girth" thread when we need it?

RIC changed the neck blank on the 4004s to the same narrower neck as that of the 4003 near the end of 2011, so I would think a 4004 from '08 to be the thicker neck version.

I have yet to see a newer 4003 with the current neck that is supposed to feel more like an early '70s one. No dealers anywhere near me, anymore. :(

That would be somewhere else, entirely.

Actually, I believe the chart is located somewhere on the RRF.

I used to own a Laredo and a Cii both made in 2004 at different times of the year. The necks were night and day.
Long story short, you just have to try each one out in person to feel what you’re gettting…..maybe post 2006 the necks started to get rounder and clubbier….but my ‘06 Cii has a reasonably nice profile too.
My 04 Cii had one of the best profiles of any 4004 I’ve owned or played…”best” for me means wide, somewhat square, and shallow.
No rounded deep C for me please!

I don't think there was any particular neck size for most years. if you 'd like a 4004 and very picky about the neck size, get one made no earlier than last 2011. They had the 4003 neck profile by then and probably the most consistent size from one to another due to CNC routing.
My JG 4004 from '04 has a neck that's very comfortable to me. My '05 has the slimmest neck profile (from to back).
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

That would be more my preference too.

Comparison of My 98 Cheyenne vs an 08 Cii. The Cii had the 2-piece neck, very deep, rounded, and clubby.
