White marks fretboard!
Hi!! Do you know if it is possible remove the white marks on my 4001c64 bass??
I'm thinking of sanding it to leave it natural (without the gloss).
Thanks!

You mean the dot inlay?
Re: White marks fretboard!
I'm pretty sure he means the pore filler.

yes, that's it!
Re: ¡Flasón de marcas blancas!
I want to sand the fretboard to transform it into a 4001c64s. The finish will be natural… I hope so…

That's rather unfortunate to hear._macca_ wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 6:24 pmI want to sand the fretboard to transform it into a 4001c64s. The finish will be natural… I hope so…
They're only original once!

Yes, you're right, but I want a C64s finish in nitro satin (CV is imposible in my country). By the way, what do you recommend for the fretboard finish? I'd like it to have a natural finish, but I understand that it would need some protection.collin wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 4:24 pmThat's rather unfortunate to hear.

I have converted a bass fingerboard to natural (oil is added for protection 2x per year), and it's been great. Not sure it was the same kind of wood, and I do not think mine had much in the way of pore filler.

I recommend leaving it alone._macca_ wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 6:34 pmYes, you're right, but I want a C64s finish in nitro satin (CV is imposible in my country). Green Heavy Duty Scotch Brite pad will matte finish your entire bass in a matter of minutes. I did the back of my 4003 neck with it and it is smoooooooth.
You could also sand the finish completely off the fretboard and put any reputable fretboard conditioner or bore oil on it.
That fretboard stock finish might eventually bubble up around the metal frets anyway. Mine has started on my 2016 4003 already. I don't think it is a bad thing though.
If the fretboard looks too light after sanding you can easily darken it with a MinWax ebony stain pen. One coat is all it takes. And it is fun to draw it on.
