4001 rick o sound
hi im new at the forum and have had my 1980 4001 for about 9 months. so i know what the rick o sound does, i just think their is a problem with it. so when i plug into the regular jack everything works fine, pickup selector switch is kinda loose so it pops out every now and then, when i plug into the ROS input only the treble pickup works. is this how it is supposed to be or is their a problem?
ehh im sexier

Yes, Joe if you plug a mono plug into the stereo jack you will only get the treble pickup. If you plug a stereo jack in there you will get the two pickups separated, the other end would be the ric-o-sound unit which will have two mono outputs for two mono cords to go to either two different amps or two different channels of the same amp. There is nothing wrong with your bass.
I got my Ric-O-Sound unit today, very cool thing, also comes with one long mono cord, the stereo cord which is attached to the box is about 20'long. It has two mono output jacks for mono cords. The mono cord seems to be even longer. I had one a few years ago but never got to try it out, is a long story why. Both cords are high quality as are the switchcraft jacks.

Bob, I got mine today also. I can't wait to try it tonight at practice. I'm gonna run the bass thru a Peavey 400w Standard w/ 2X12 cab and the treble thru a Fender bassman 200w/ 1X12 and a horn. Thats the initial plan anyway. I may wind up using the 2 channels of the Peavey by themselves.

Bob, I set up my R-O-S last night in the former way described in my previous post. After a bit of tweaking to get the right eq adjustments, I couldn't believe the sound. It really cleaned up my sound and I cut through the mix better than I ever had before. It was great.
One of the guitar players said "Damn, now were gonna have to carry TWO bass amps". I guess he liked the sound, too.

I received mine in the mail today from Pick of the Rics, and it is pretty awesome to use. The sound is incredibly full with the two amps, and believe it or not, there is almost no hum, like when using the mono jack. It is extremely quiet when running in stereo. What a nice surprise that was. To my ears, ROS does seem to subdue the Ric bite just a tad, giving it more of a jazz sound.
The only downfall with this kit? The other basses in my collection will sound even duller by comparison!
For all the negative things I've read and heard about the stereo feature, now I can say, from first hand experience, that it a fantastic option to have, and now I'm wishing my other basses had it!
