Toasted Heretic

Post by Dr. Frankenrick »

I found a guy in the UK on the Rickenfaker Facebook page who is making “authentic” Toaster covers out of pressed non-ferretic steel. I say authentic because they are the correct height and have the rounded corners unlike the other non-Rick replacements out there. He told me the cost of tooling alone to make these was £15k!

So I had him ship a couple of covers to Oil City Pickups in London, where they made me a couple of non-standard Toasters. One is an Alnico 3 Strat pickup wound with heavy formvar, while the other is an Alnico 2 Firebird with plain enamel.

My 360/12 still sounds like a Rick, but the new pickups have really tightened and sweetened things up compared to the Hi Gains I took out.

Wow 15k tooling costs!
I wonder how many covers will have to be sold to break even?

I know. Go big or go home. I’ve just ordered another one to get a short magnet Toaster made for surface mounting in the middle position.
