So far I like Ernie Cobalt flats the best. But they sound very mid scooped with the toasters.

I have TI Jazz Flats on the Snowglo 4004L.

Optima RB, of course: the spiritual successor to the OEM Maximas of yore and lore.

I have Chromes on my V63, but will be putting nickle Roto rounds back on. My P-bass does everything I need out of flats.

I use TIs but actually find the G in particular a bit stiff. For reference I use Roto stainless 40-95 or 40-100 rounds and I find the TI G stiffer than the Rotos. I like the tone, but I also find they have a weird sort of drag to them, feel wise. Difficult to really explain.

Labella deep talking flats 39-96, nice “rubbery” Macca tone!

I've had the same set of TI Jazz flats on my rick for eleven years now. I put them on back in June 2014.

I've never gotten along with flats. I like DR Highbeams on my 4003S.

I got mine on my 4001 since about that time. They have the perfect tension for the old 4001. I got a newer set for my 4005XC.

I have the D'Addario Chromes ECB-84 set on three of my Ricks.
I had the La Bella Low Tension Flats set on one for a while, but they were too loose for my feel and my fingers tend to stick to them, as they do with most sets of stainless steel strings, including roundwounds. I don't have that sticky problem with D'Addario Chromes, After previously using D'Addario EXL-170 roundwounds on these Ricks, intonating strings with the ECB-84 set was not an issue.

JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

It’s weird, I only have the sticky problem with flats, not rounds.rickenbrother wrote: Sat Jun 14, 2025 4:19 pm I have the D'Addario Chromes ECB-84 set on three of my Ricks.

More surface area on flats to stick to.henry5 wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 5:51 pmIt’s weird, I only have the sticky problem with flats, not rounds.rickenbrother wrote: Sat Jun 14, 2025 4:19 pm I have the D'Addario Chromes ECB-84 set on three of my Ricks.

I just got some JF344 strings and I put them on the 4003. I like them the best now! Powerful fundamental and lots of interesting sounds! Not mid-scooped at all and the fundamental cuts right through the mix.

The weirdest thing is they seem to really hurt my finger joints, when my normal Roto Swing Bass 40-100 or 40-95 don’t, even though the tension is higher. I love how they record, but I struggle to play them comfortably for an entire set.teeder wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 1:15 pmMore surface area on flats to stick to.henry5 wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 5:51 pmIt’s weird, I only have the sticky problem with flats, not rounds.rickenbrother wrote: Sat Jun 14, 2025 4:19 pm I have the D'Addario Chromes ECB-84 set on three of my Ricks.
