It does look nice. But it has a few very unusual features. I have never seen a 4003 with a maple skunk stripe. Also, that's the darkest fretboard I've ever seen on a 4003. Lastly, what's a 4003S doing with Ric-O-Sound? It looks like a real Rick to me but...I wonder what's the deal with it?!!

Could it be a B-Series? Oh, but it doesn't have a toaster, hmmm...I have no idea.

I have a 4003S AzureGlo and it has ROS as well.
Actually I found out later that I purchased the Ric from a member of this group...

By the way, Steve; I still have IT !!!!
I just purchased a new 2 piece pickguard for it, so the cracked one is outta here !!!!! lol

I have never seen a 4003 with that neck construction let alone a maple 'skunk' stripe. This one is indeed odd.

The Rick web site says according to the #'s it's a Nov. 84 bass. I couldn't find any other info.

Could that fretboard be Ebony ? Strange pup indeed, speaking of which here's another

Rickenbacker 3001 I always thought that 3000 series had only one pickup, was discontinued circa 84-85. This one is claimed to be 1988 ? Is this really a 2030 variation ? that would be more in line with its age

I was wondering if it was a B series. The pick-up could have been swapped out.

It would be nice to have a pic of the trc...and/or underneath the trc...

Could be a "transition" model....leftover from the 4001 days....? I recall someone else having an "S" model with the Ric o sound feature

I have an 81 4003 without the stripe, I thought they discontinued those around 1979 or 80.

Yeah Jim, that 3001 is really a 2030.
