Rickenbacker V68 4001 (not 4003)
A reissue of a late 1960s spec 4001
3 piece long headstock, no skunk stripe
Toaster in 1960s position
Horseshoe
Checkerboard binding
Crushed pearl (or mica) fb inlays
Late 60s neck and body contouring
Back painted trc
Mono output
Standard finishes in fireglo and mapleglo
Custom or limited runs in Burgundyglo, Jetglo, and Azureglo
I would conceed the single truss rod and push-pull switch.
Take all of my moneys now, plz!![]()

Ah yes can't forget that! I do appreciate the new developments, but a modern bridge would totally destroy the concept.cheyenne wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:29 amDon't forget the gap toothed bridge.bassdroid wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 3:55 pm A bit of fantasy, for fun...

Another deal breaker for me would be the short headstock/long trc combo. I know that has become derigeur for the V and C series. But it just looks off to me..can't quite look past it.
And that's not a slam on those basses. I have a friend whose V63 I would snap up in a minute if he ever decided to sell.

Acquire a vintage TRC. This is one from 1966 on my mid '10s 4004L SPC.bassdroid wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 7:15 am Another deal breaker for me would be the short headstock/long trc combo. I know that has become derigeur for the V and C series. But it just looks off to me..can't quite look past it.
Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features
That looks great Jeff! It would be an acceptable solution, were a V68 or something like it to happen (not holding my breath). I would consider one of the later molded plastic ones as an alternative.
EDIT: looks like I may have improperly lumped the C64 trc in with the V63. Though the C64 is reversed, the two do not share the same proportions in relation to the headstock.

My 4001S has some features that people seem to like. It also has some mods due to missing parts and dead tuners:

Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features
The earlier V63s weren’t like that; same with the CSs. I think the change came in some time after ‘96 as my ‘96 CS has the proper proportions. My V63 was 2000 or thereabouts and that had the less accurate proportions; it also had a chunky neck, two of the reasons why I let it go.bassdroid wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 7:15 amAh yes can't forget that! Yes, please. Bring back again plexiglass TRC for C64 Model. I need it!!
Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features
I rarely play bass anymore, but I'd have to get one of these. Probably a Burg, but maybe FG or MG.cheyenne wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:29 amDon't forget the gap toothed bridge.bassdroid wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 3:55 pm A bit of fantasy, for fun...

LOVE The fatter skunk stripe, and the bound headstock completes the look AFAIC.
Also LOVE practical bridge. What is the bridge pickup?

Re: blend control vs 2 volumes.
I’ve had every one of my 4004 models original 1v1t minitoggle harnesses replaced with several different configurations.
VVT
Stacked VTVT (with minitoggle)
VTVT fullsize toggle
VBT
BVT
I haven’t heard any aural issues with these. (Oddly, the one with the arrangement most similar to a 4001/3 had a chirpy sound in full-up both pickups on settings).
I greatly prefer having a balance control in the first position, as I can just turn it slightly in either direction from the center detente to blend,
instead of going back and forth between 2 separate volumes.(and I leave the Master Volume control full up 95% of the time.)

What's the story with that bass?jayfbv wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 4:35 pm My 4001S has some features that people seem to like. It also has some mods due to missing parts and dead tuners:
It doesn't look very "4001S" from here.

Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features
Looks to me to be a rebuild or a "tribute" to a Rickenbacker. The bound body shouldn't have the dot fingerboard, the five-piece bound headstock is non-standard, etc. That's not to say that it isn't a real Rickenbacker. It may have been an experimental build at the factory, or it could have been modified by a previous owner. Lots of possibilities. As long as it works, it's a fine bass!

Yeah, I agree that if you're only going to have three knobs, a blend would be better than two master volumes. Though to be honest I'd rather just have BVV. I've never found tone knobs useful.woodyng wrote: Thu Sep 11, 2025 5:12 am Re: blend control vs 2 volumes.
