NGD: 1976 450/12 needs new bridge screws

Post by patinmexico »

Hello there!
I picked up my 6th Rick (...) yesterday, the nice cheap 1976 450/12 here in Cologne, Germany. This has been my local guitar store for years, and so i called them and got it cheaper than on Reverb.

LOVE it, but needs a good setup.

It's in quite amazing shape, but the bridge height adjustment screws are VERY rusty and basically falling apart. I had to move em by grabbing them with pliers from the bottom, since the top hex holes are worn out.
Any chance on how and where to get good matching replacements here in Europe?

Might give the truss rods a quarter turn as well, since there seems to be a slight upbow and the bridge pickup is almost touching the strings.
Possibly will also bypass the thin cap, as i did recently on my blue 480.
Step by step...

The part description (U.S. terminology) is: "flat-tip set screw, black-oxide alloy steel, , 6-32 thread x 5/8 inches long". Here is the corresponding McMaster-Carr listing:

I checked at the local Ace Hardware here in the U.S. and they did not have that particular length (they had shorter ones), so I don't know where in Europe to try to get them.

IIRC, the same set screw is used on the "old style" bass bridge. According to the parts diagram it's part # 05301:

Figured that I'd pass the info on in case you need the Rickenbacker part number. 8)
