'57-'62 4000 series original pickguard

Post by Filthyphil »

Hi,
I know everyone is over at FB these days but it's not really my thing and I know there are still some folks here in the real world.

Bit of a left field question. I recently took a couple of wounded 4001's out from "under the bed" and put them back in working order. Loving them both.

But, always had the hots for the original 1957 gold pickguard design and would love to get one, updated to fit a 4001. The gold would look especially good on the burgundy 4001S ( a bit like the anniversary 4003).

Just wondered if anyone knew of the design spec/had a plan or template/knew of anyone or anywhere that had one for the original? Or of a pickguard maker who has done one?

Happy New Year.

Two possibilities. One is Pickguardian, but I don't know if he'd done one of these so he may not have a template. The other, who has made a pickguard in this shape is Dane Wilder (aceonbass).

Not had a lot of luck sourcing a 4001 version of the 57-62 PG so if you want something done...

Work in progress - 1st card pattern mounted on my 4001S. Thought some of you might be interested. If and when it gets to a finished item, I'll post it. Going to be in gold, obvs.

I've only ever seen it in gold before so it looks very strange to me in white.

It's gone out to a pickguard maker (in a revised version) to be cut in gold acrylic.

Gold is going to look fantastic with that burgundy color!
I’m a huge fan of the original 4000 pickguard shape, and backpainted gold acrylic.

It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I rather like it. ‘79 4001 V57H.

The black bridge/tailpiece is a bit odd looking but otherwise looks great.

Isnt that aggravating? I love Hipshot parts, but between the price and availability of some products, I wish there were other vendors.

The bass looks great regardless. Nice job. :D .
