Input Jack nut
This is not the nut at the top of the neck, it's the nut that secures the threaded input jack female. Mine kept falling off and finally I lost it. I can still plug in w/o pushing the jack into the body, but it's hard and not a long term solution. I've looked for parts and I can only find the entire assembly. These nuts are different from any other brand, I've tried taking one off a Fender, Ovation, Mitchell, BC RICH and several others and researching it find Rickenbackers are smaller than any of these. I want to buy several extras incase it happens again, but I don't want to have to buy several assemblies at $10 a pop.
Does anyone know where they sell very small specialty parts like this?

Re: Input Jack nut
Bring your Rick to a hardware store. I'm sure a store employee would be happy to help you a nut that fits. Also get some Locktite removeable (blue) threadlocker. Put a very small drop on the threads of the jack before you put the nut on. Be sure to get the removeable one. The permanent threadlocker takes high heat to remove if necessary, which would destroy the finish.

Re: Input Jack nut
Good advice from rickenbrother. Well, if you have none, then you have to buy one, at least. Consider this, although relatively expensive:
https://www.rickysounds.co.uk/product/r ... t-or-pots/
If you are located in USA, take your nut to a big box hardware store, like Lowe's or Home Depot. Both stores have a display of mounted nuts and bolts, metric and Imperial, that you can try to thread your nut onto. When you find the correct size, thread count, etc., make a note. Maybe you can buy one/some there. If not, with the RIC part number (06000) and the specifications for confirmation, you can search and likely find a source in the USA (less expensive). Yes, pick up some "Blue" Locktite.
PS - Here are a couple of websites. Mainly for information, but one of the three size hex nuts offered by StuMac may be a substitute:
https://www.stewmac.com/parts-and-hardw ... 3f8da4c3d1 (note that all three options show size and thread count)
https://www.alegree.co.uk/products/rick ... et-or-pots
If you happen to have some potentiometers lying around, take the hex nut off and give it/them a try.
PPS - Here's one commercial website that has a large variety of... everything related to nuts & bolts. I think you want to search for "panel nuts":
https://www.mcmaster.com/products/hex-nuts/ ...and on that webpage are...
https://www.mcmaster.com/products/hex-n ... l-nuts-2~/
Just obtain one of the nuts you need and determine its size and threads. (However, if you use the blue Locktite, you may never need more than one nut.)

Re: Input Jack nut
They are probably 3/8-32 x 3/32", as that is what I see in online searches. I can confirm the 3/8 part, as my 3/8 taps fit, but I don't have a 32-thread tap to confirm that part (it's not 24-thread, for sure). In a hardware store they may be called "panel nuts" due to them being thinner than regulat hex nuts.
Also, they are standard CTS parts ... I found the Rickenbackerinput output jack nut on my 1981 460 BG to be interchangeable with the one on my 2000 Epiphone John Lennon Revolution Casino as well as the one my 1979-ish Bunker ProStar Bass.

Aren't the OUTPUT jacks Switchcraft? Shouldn't be too hard to find the correct nut.

Re: Input Jack nut
Sorry, this is the first time I've ever gotten a response on this forum and I wasn't ready for it!
No local hardware store had anything near this, very special item, it's unlike any other brand.
I might as well have bought the entire assembly for what one nut ended up costing me, but at least I found a good source for parts, these guys have an exploded version of all the instruments and every single little part.
I found the part but pretty pricey for single nut:

I thought that size also, but Cara said she tried a nut from a Fender, which should be the same size.

Re: Input Jack nut
Nope, I tried a Fender (from a Stratocaster) an Ovation acoustic/electric, an '81 BCRICH Mockingbird, a Mitchell shortscale and a Gibson I borrowed just to try. All too big.
and now here's some Geezer Butler on a Rickenbacker for your listening pleasure!

Geezer had bought that 4001 from Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple just before that show. If you'd like to hear excellent recordings of that 4001, listen to Deep Purple's Burn album, on which Glenn recorded all the bass tracks using that Rick. Truly awesome 4001 tone on that album.cararickbass2 wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2026 6:11 am and now here's some Geezer Butler on a Rickenbacker for your listening pleasure!

Re: Input Jack nut
Love Burn and Stormbringer, I did this just about a year ago:
Burn/Deep Purple Mk III Glenn Hughes/bass by Cara
https://youtu.be/Cp7HgZgdYYY
A great bass part by another favorite bass player of mine Glenn Hughes who came into Purple with vocalist David Coverdale and they shared lead vocals on many songs including this one. I saw a live video where Hughes is playing this song on a FireGlo Rickenbacker 4001, same color as my 4003S. All my favorite bass players seem to play a Rick!! This is a really driving song, one of Purples heaviest based on another great Blackmore guitar riff, reminds me of Man on the Silver Mt. or 16th Century Greensleeves.
