Filling unsightly holes in A22 headstock

Post by Da frying hawaiian »

Hello fellow Rick-thusiasts,

I recently acquired an A22, and am looking for a bit of advice, as to how I might go about filling several extra (tuner) holes that a previous owner decided to add to the headstock?

I’m finding it neigh impossible to find any luthiers willing to work on an all aluminum guitar. However, a google search yielded advice that involved aluminum brazing rods, and a JB Weld “Steel stick” as implements to assist me in my goal.

I think it worth mentioning that i do not intend on using the brazing rods for their intended purpose (with heat), but instead am planning to use them as dowels, with the JB product to seal the ends.

Has anyone here done this or something similar, and what result occurred? Also, am I overlooking anything or not taking something into consideration that will cause me grief as a result of my short sightedness?

I realize that the plates for the tuning machines will cover the extra holes, from most observers, but the fact that you can still see them from the other side, really irks me.

Anyway, all advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated

Welcome, Corey!

A good machine shop may be a better source for help.

Good call, Jeff! :)
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I’d love to get the names of these shops, If that wouldn’t be asking too much? PM would be fine as well. I have absolutely no reservations about sending it off across the Pacific Ocean if that’s what it takes.

There is a RRF member somewhere in Hawaii. His name is Jared Nakanishi. IIRC, he does metalwork so can probably help you out.
